Your Life Mix

This topic of top life songs has been coming up a lot recently.

And what an impossible task, right? A life mix sort of implies that it would sum up your entire life. There are so many songs yet to be written that I have yet to fall in love with. There are Nirvana's, Pearl Jam's, Radiohead's, Something Corporate's, and Miley Cyrus' yet to graze the music scene. Maybe artists who are not even born yet that I will like at one point in my life.

That said, I still think that we should open up some type of community "share your life" mix forum with each other. (since I pretty much know the four of you who read this regularly)

What would it include? How would it even flow? Would it be your favorite songs, or songs playing during important instances in your life?

I once hit car while an Marilyn Manson song was on the radio. I get the total creeps if I hear that song, because it was as if life stood still because I was in such shock that I was in an accident, and I hadn't realized the song was on (I was listening to KROQ). Then it was all I could hear.

Anyway, make up your own rules. Then give me your life mix. I am curious to see what songs make up the friends that I love so dearly.

I have 14 songs on my mix so far:

1. Weezer - Say it ain't so
2. Better Than Ezra - Despartely Wanting
3. Toadies - Possum Kingdom
4. Alanis Morisette - Head over Feet
5. The Cure - Just like Heaven
6. Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
7. Oingo Boingo - Not My Slave (great story about this song...)
8. Jeff Buckley - Lover, you should come over
9. Better Than Ezra - Get you in
10. Jimmy Eat World - Work
11. Nada Surf - Inside of Love
12. Shine - A random worship song from my old church
13. Death Cab for Cutie - Debate Exposes Doubt
14. U2 - I still haven't found what I am looking for

It's Oh So Quiet..........

Why is Bjork so cute? I have been in a Bjork mood since my Swan "Bjork" has been out almost everyday. Plus her videos are AMAZING!

Marshmellow and Lilly Pad

http://www.marshallandlilywedding.com/

Flip through the photo album, it is quite hilarious as they show some of Marshall and Lilly in "Scotland" (Although it looks more like a swamp in the hollywood hills...)

Also, note that Marshall always has a hat on, since his head is awesomely shaved...

Iconic Media Moments in My Childhood #4

I feel like I just won the lottery. I CONSTANTLY wished I could see this commercial again. I am SO happy.

I have been waiting for this word my entire life

"aromachology" – the study of how smell really affects us and how that can inform the art of perfume (Christopher Brosius).

Everyone has the experience of taking a deep breath, only to smell some aroma from the past. I learn from smells. I used to have these smelly-good markers (as I affectionately called them) in jr. high in which I would take notes in. If I smelled the pen before the test I would remember what I wrote. Maybe in reality I have a photogenic memory, but maybe, just maybe it is a aromagenic memory.

Anyway, for years I have tried to figure out what this would be called. The sense of smell is so important and maybe I should become an aromachologist as a side gig. ;)

Miley Mania

I am just going to be honest right now - I happen to enjoy a lot of media targeted to tweens. High School Musical, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and most of all Hannah Montana, to name a few. It is the inner pop princess in me I suppose.

I love Ashley Tisdale (pre-nose job) and Miley Cyrus - and their music careers.

If I could download, I would get "See you again" in a flash of an itunes purchase. It is in the queue for the day after Easter.

Just look at the beauty of these lyrics:

"The last time I freaked out I just kept looking down
I st-st-stuttered when you asked me what I'm thinking 'bout
Felt like I couldn't breathe
You asked what's wrong with me
My best friend Leslie said "oh she's just being Miley"
The next time we hang out
I will redeem myself
My heart can't rest 'till then
Oh woah woah, I, I can't wait to see you again"

I wish I had a little sister or that my cousins were closer because I would SO try to score some Miley tickets.

If I Were a Superhero...

In the past two days, I have driven to Hell-A TWICE.

EEK.

Therefore, in the past two days I have spent 8 hours in a vehicle, of which I was driving.

All this driving prompted lots of thinking, since I was traveling alone. (I know, be scared)

Here was the highlight of my chaotic thoughts -

If I were a superhero my arch nemesis would be:
  • Obnoxious Dave Matthews Band fans
  • Pickles
  • Mayo
  • Dog Hair
  • Down feathers
  • Windows (hahaa, funny considering the recent conversion)
My Strengths?
  • Excel Spreadsheets (NOTHING makes me happier than an organized, color coded, sortable, excel doc)
  • Perusing Target $1 bins, in a MacGuyver type fashion I can create problem solving strategies from the content of these bins...
  • Pilates and Yoga moves to defeat "negative energy" ....
  • Sweet playlists and mixes on my ipod
  • Sharpee Pens

And now...Infamous Mall Moments of the 90's #1

My new series is going to be devoted to classic mall moments from the 90's.

The first...drum roll...

Cinnabon!

In a time where calorie counters were a thing of the future, people would woof down Cinnabon's by the dozen.

I can remember going to the mall in the early 90's and wanting to swing by Cinnabon for a warm, gooey cultural phenom. A pre-cursor to the Krispy Kreme's and Sprinkle's of the world, Cinnabon, you take the cake. (Pun intended)

I don't think I could actually eat one now though, but innocence was bliss back in the day...

A prayer

Lord as I offer Everything, I pray that my life would make You pleased, that I might move mountains, wake the sea, oh that Your light would shine through me.

cuteness!

Will you be my Valentine? Constants aren't so constant anymore

In honor of Loventine's Day, here would be my anti-Valentine's Day mix. I had to. ;)

Mixes are just too much fun...

1. Get Up Kids - Valentine
*Key Lyric - "Those you words you forget, two Anniversary songs" - for those who were hip and with it in 00, that Anniversary is in relation to the band (and my frog, may he rest in peace)
2. Dramarama - Anything, Anything
*key lyric - I give you diamonds, give you pills, give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills (true romance)
3. Dashboard Confessional - Again I go unnoticed
*key lyric - please tell me your just feeling tired, cuz if its more than that I fear that I might break
4. Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
key lyric - wait for something better, but baby that doesn't mean us
5. Better than Ezra - Porcelain
*key lyric - hey you got a lot of nerve, to dredge up all my fear, well i wish i could shake some sense into you and walk out the door, but your skin is like porcelain.
6. Kate Nash - Foundations
key lyric - My fingernails are holding on to the cracks in our foundation
7. Nada Surf - Inside of Love
key lyric - only when we get to see the aerial view, will the patterns show, we will know what to do
8. Something Corporate - You're Gone
key lyric - I wish i could, i know i should, but you know, i know, i won't
9. Jack's Mannequin - Bruised
key lyric - had to give it away, had to give you away
10. Death Cab for Cutie - Tiny Vessels
key lyric - this is the moment, that you know, that you told you that you loved her but you don't. touch her skin, and then you think, she is beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me. yeah, she is beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me.

Iconic Media Moments in My Childhood #3

Pocket Rocker!

Yes, I know. The jokes have been made. We have all laughed, but the song that was BURNED into my head as a youth has been uncovered in God's gift to everyone - YouTube. I <3 YouTube. If anyone of you want to see the Pocket Rocker in all its glory, maybe I will open up my "Box of Technology" for you.....

Again, hadn't seen this clip in probably 18 years...it was glorious to find it....

Iconic Media Moments in My Childhood #2

My last post prompted me to find various childhood memories as a series.

To start - The Goofy Movie was very influental in my want to separate my music tastes from my parents (oh wait - that was the theme of the movie...)

I own this soundtrack, on CD mind you, it was one of my first 10 CD's...I think I can remember my first 10, maybe that should be another post...

ENJOY! Some dude on the internets put both of the best clips together...

Proof that Sesame Street Brainwashed Me

Tonight on my way home from LG, I was listening to KRTH 101. The Smokey Robinson song "You really got a hold on me" came on. Instantly I saw a giant dancing "U" in my head. It was driving me crazy, while cruising on Newport Blvd, when it hit me - SESAME STREET

So, when I got home, I YouTube'd "Sesame Street, Smokey Robinson" to find the very clip I had envisioned. I will venture to say that I was probably 4 or 5 when I orgininally saw this, which makes the memory about 21 to 22 years ago. CREEPY....

Adventures in Atempting Online Dating

In a fit of pre-V Day spite, I decided to take another look at my Match.com account.

However, after I began to update my account information, (or stare at the blank screen for 45 minutes) I realized that I am not "normal" - but in an amazing way.

For example - I don't think I can write a dating statement. This is basically your "hook" for someone, similar to a myspace/facebook quote. There are all these hilarious guidelines in writing a successful dating statement, mine didn't quite fit.

Here is what I got, and realized this was a complete waste of time:

*Looking for someone to geek out with?
*Want someone who will crush your high score on Tetris?
*Interested in someone with good rss feed management? (I had to add that one, that is what all Godly men want, right?)
*I break for computer nerds.
*Mac using, iPhone touting, VW driving, punk rock princess. Garage band kings please apply.
*Want to be in my rock band? I'll play drums like Meg White - you can be lead guitar and vocals - but the video game version, of course.

I can't take this seriously.

Ok God, I get it. I get it. I will wait...You really like watching this journey though, don't you?

A Loop Hole - Need Feedback

Based on this Post,

Can I still purchase worship music?

Discuss.

An Oldie, But Goodie

This is one of my favorite Soup clips. How hot is Joel McHale's skinny blue tie?

Snobby Art Parties Produce Iconic Photographs

Despite my running, clogged up nose, (gross, I know!) I made it to Mikkele's Birthday Party.

Here are some of my fave pics from the evening:

Wine Glass #???

Josh and Tiffany pretentiously drink wine.

Mikkele is awe by German Chocolate Cake

As Buster would say "They're gonna have a baby!"

Life really isn't complete until you see how big this is and know the story behind it.

Happy Birthday Mikkele!!!

Lent

I gave up buying new music for Lent.

Here are the rules:
  • Tiffany is not to buy any new music until the day after Easter - which includes any iTunes downloads, Target impulse buys, or trips to Second Spin or Amoeba.
  • Tiffany *is* allowed to get music from friends/family/co-worker spot bonuses - as long as it is unasked for. (this is not a plea, this is just so I don't get criticized if this does happen)
  • Tiffany *is* allowed to download via iTunes if given an iTunes gift card from family for Valentines Day.
  • Tiffany *is* allowed to get any legal, free downloads on the internet (ie Stereogum free downloads, itunes free download of the week, etc.)
The main reason for Lent is to remember the sacrifice that was given to us - not about rules. However, daily at work, home, etc, I am reminded of amazing songs that I want for my collection. During this time frame when I am reminded of these things I want, I am going to recognize why I want them (Reason: You gotta have Rock) and give thanks for all the stuff and gigs of music that I *do* have.

Honestly, this may be the greatest sacrifice ever. I should have given up chocolate.

Andiamo!

This year I would really like to go to Italy. I was at Urban Outfitters a few weeks ago and I found this necklace that has a few different Italian charms - a charm of the shape of Italy, a gondola, a charm that says "amore" , and a charm that looks to be a catholic symbol.

My grandfather is/was Italian (what is the proper tense when someone has passed?) It has been almost 4 years since he passed away. It is so bizarre. He was a defining role in our family. He brought life, joy, and humor into all of our lives.

When I was in college he faithfully sent me a care package each week - fully of candy, starbucks cards, wendy's cards, soups, or anything I even remotely mentioned that I liked. He also sent $30 a week so I wouldn't have to work. Amazing that I lived off that much back then. That is barely one meal these days...

He also created a "secret drawer" for me, my brother, and my cousins. Whenever we would come over, we each had our own drawer in his desk. Inside would usually be some $$, candy, or some surprise of some sort. It was pretty amazing.

Anyway, today I was at borders and there was a Fodor's learn Italian CD set with bonus Fodor's travel guide on sale for $9.99. I decided that I couldn't pass it up. So even if I start in a small way, I am going to put the Italian CD's on my iTunes, iPod, and iPhone (the Tri-fecta) so I can study whenever I have any free time.

Ciao Bella!

And just like that, it was 199(something)

Ok, as I have been researching the new Weezer album I saw this:

=w=

DYING. That was like "pre" emoticon era. How funny is that?

In honor:

From Pitchforkmedia

Weezer Announce Release Date for New Album Mark your calendars, boys and girls. The new Weezer album, which the boys are affectionately referring to as "Album Six" for the moment, has a release date. I bet you want to know what that release date is, don't you? Here, just have it: April 22, 2008. Hey, that's Jack Nicholson's birthday! Coincidence?? Er, probably.

"Weezer fans truly have something to look forward to," gushed Weezer bassist Scott Shriner about the new Weezer album on the Weezer website. "The entire band has accomplished some of its most challenging goals as a group and as individuals. It's all coming together on this album." Throw your Weezer signs in the sky, guys!

Of course, that's hardly the only thing cooking in camp Weezer of late. As previously reported, Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo-- the one with the Ice Cube cover-- lands December 11 via Geffen. You know, I listen to a lot of Ice Cube when I'm all by myself too.

Beautiful Beat

Tomorrow the Nada Surf album officially comes out. If you don't already have some type of advanced copy, I would highly recommend the purchase.

There is a song called "Beautiful Beat" which basically describes how amazing music can be and how he tried to fix all his problems through sound. While this is probably not the best way to go through life, it also isn't a terrible way either. Music really can touch a lot of places that friends sometimes have difficulty relating to. It is what makes it so powerful and relate-able.

I think Mikkele is probably going to crack up right now, but I am totally on a soap box right now about the community aspect of music. Without the community aspect of music, you have sound that means nothing. Yet, gather people around, let them enjoy, discuss, and yearn to hear the song more than once. That is the true power of a good song - even if only two people in the world like a song, it is more meaningful to have somebody to share that love with.

For me, the song that I love that probably everyone in the world would hate is a small list of the following:
*Halo - by Haley James Scott (yes, I know it is fictional, but it is on the soundtrack!)
*Every time we touch - by Cascada (euro techno at its best, but uber annoying after listen 300)
*Real Love - Mary J. Blige

My philosophy - like what you like. You will always find someone else who you can share that with.

Han Solo in Legos - So crazy!

And By "We" I mean "Me" - A Story Sort of Told In Reverse

I am now officially home. Home from one of the most fun trips I have had with friends, all time, ever. Home from a fantastic Super Bowl party.

The ending to this story is that we made it home. And by we I mean me. (Oh! I made it work! Yes!!!) No, we all made it home. Despite a snowstorm that would rival those on planet Hoth and a sandstorm that even the sand people of Tatooine would have been startled by, we prevailed! I was so thankful for boys who know how to put chains on cars.

Moments that I don't want to forget:
  • Mikkele thinking that "pain" was "pam" on my pictonary-ish game
  • Kevin flipping over Rechelle (literally, there is a picture to prove it)
  • Guitar Hero! Long live "My Name is Jonas!"
  • Sunday Morning controlled chaos - chains being lost, cars getting stuck, unstuck, getting chains, and getting down that mountain! It was an adventure...
  • "God" talking to Alice, Mikkele, and I. Apparently the way to God's heart is through Nachos (with cheese, btw), cookies, and carrots for his reindeer. And by "God" I mean Cody. If you don't obey God is going to make all Tuesday's Monday's from now on. Oh the horror!
  • My idea for a band name "And if by We I mean Me" and no one got it :)
  • Hearing not only Jars of Clay, but also DC Talk, on the way up the mtn. It was glorious to have these shared experiences.
  • Listening to FIF - "Oh Canada" - I si vous plait
  • The Egg-Josh-Muffin (they were delicious)

I love my friends

Big Bear Madness!!! :)
